The Curriculum & Global Pathways
STEAM & Interdisciplinary Focus
Summit Collegiate Academy: Environmental Science & Ecological Systems
The educational program is grounded in an integrated STEAM system. This combines Florida state-adopted standards with inquiry-based, project-based, and applied learning experiences. Learn more about our connection to local STEM programming through the MODS STEM Learning Series.
1. The STEAM & Innovation Pathway
Academic Focus: Prepares students for high-demand fields in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics through rigorous virtual coursework and applied, project-based learning.
ESE Integration: Provides specialized instructional design, assistive technologies, and individualized accommodations (IEP/504 compliance) to ensure exceptional students can fully access and master complex mathematical and scientific concepts.
MODS Alignment (Real-World Application): Students can utilize the MODS Bank of America 'Museums on Us' weekends to participate in hands-on physics, engineering, and environmental science exhibits that bring their virtual curriculum to life. For families seeking intensive academic enrichment, Camp STEAMology offers dedicated camps focusing on robotics and chemistry. Furthermore, MODS supports Accommodating Exploration by providing an environment where students with specific sensory or physical needs can participate comfortably with their required accommodations.
2. The Advanced Biliteracy & Communication Pathway
Academic Focus: Develops advanced linguistic proficiency and practical communication skills, ensuring students can apply bilingual vocabulary in dynamic, real-world scenarios.
ESE Integration: Utilizes differentiated language acquisition strategies, speech-language therapies, and individualized scaffolding to support exceptional students in mastering communication milestones and functional language skills.
MODS Alignment (Real-World Application): Through the MODS Good 4U Kids' Club and community access programs, students are encouraged to engage with local environmental and scientific exhibits, applying their bilingual vocabulary to real-world ecological concepts and community science initiatives. The museum's Accommodating Exploration policies ensure that students requiring specific environmental or behavioral accommodations can practice these communication skills in a supportive, sensory-friendly physical space.
3. The Global Readiness & Civic Participation Pathway
Academic Focus: Fosters civic awareness, geographic literacy, and a comprehensive understanding of global ecosystems and civic responsibilities.
ESE Integration: Focuses on individualized transition planning, self-advocacy skills, and tailored civic engagement projects, ensuring exceptional students are thoroughly prepared for post-secondary independence and active community participation.
MODS Alignment (Real-World Application): Programs like 'Blue Star Museums' (which provides free summer admission for military families) teach our students the value of civic participation and community involvement. Students are encouraged to explore global environmental documentaries at the MODS IMAX theater to expand their worldwide perspective. As with all pathways, MODS' commitment to Accommodating Exploration guarantees that these expansive civic and geographic learning opportunities are fully accessible to our ESE student population, allowing all students to engage with their community.
